LOL! I hope you guys aren't getting sick of hearing from me! But I bring you tidings of stupendous news yet again in the announcement of more free PC games. And this time I'm really, really excited to tell you what I've uncovered. This is another giveaway from Ubisoft through their digital delivery platform UPlay. Dust that bitch off or request a new password if you can't recall your credentials at all. In case of an emergency just make a new account right now. I'll wait...okay, you're back, great. Because we have some work to do.
Right now on the main page in the UPlay launcher you'll notice a banner announcing you can grab a free copy of World in Conflict. Click the banner and the game will be automatically added to your library. This game comes from the ancient times of 2007 but still has a following even after 10 years of being out in the wild. World in Conflict was developed by Swedish studio Massive Entertainment, now owned by Ubisoft, and garnered critical acclaim. PC Gamer named it their 2007 RTS Game of the Year and it is also mentioned in the book 1001 Games You Must Play Before You Die, by Tony Mott. The multiplayer servers were officially shut down in December of 2015; fans publically decried the decision, however an unaffiliated group of players restored the Massgate servers and online functionality can be used once more. And the world rejoiced. Amen.
I can hear you saying, "You told me to open the Hell gates that are UPlay for this? A 10 year old RTS that I've never heard of. Thanks dude..." Ahh, ye of such little faith, would I deceive thee as such? NEVER! Next week you'll be thanking me for getting your UPlay account active again since Ubisoft is giving away Assassin's Creed VI: Black Flag! Many of you may be kicking yourself now, but it is your financial support and your early adoption of games that keeps the lights on for developers and gives the rest of us stragglers and late-comers the ability to partake in excellence when we wait so long that we get the same game for free years later! So really, we take our hats off to you folks. Black Flag was generally well received by critics with many seeing the game as superior to AC III (itself being given away for free not too long ago) and giving high marks to the open, explorable world and improved stealth mechanics. It was nominated by several outlets for their Game of the Year 2013 awards and won the 2013 Spike VGX Best Action Adventure Game award and the GameSpot Game of the Year award for the PS4 and XBOX One divisions. As always, happy gaming!
